Piraeus

Information about Piraeus Port

Piraeus has been the port of Athens since ancient times. Piraeus is a modern city, built on top of the ancient city, is a major shipping and financial hub.

Pireaus consists of three harbours, most of the tourist boats and ferries depart from there to the Greek islands. Piraeus is to the southwest of Athens, about 10 km from the centre of town, linked to the city by buses and Athens old metro.

The port is located at the heart of Piraeus, with many services nearby. Where you can find useful services such as luggage storage, ATMs, banks, exchange, bars, restaurants, taxis and several travel agencies which sell ferry tickets.

Passalimani

It is situated at the east of central port and is also known as "Limani Zeas". In the ancient years it was one of Themistocle's major naval ports, with dry docks for 196 triremes. It took its name in 18th century when it was used to harbour the Ottoman fleet. Today it is filled with lavish yachts and surrounded with numerous cafes and bars.

Marina Zeas

At the southern most point of Passalimani, Marina Zeas is a jetty used as a dock for some of the most impressive and luxury yachts and cruisers, belonging mostly to Greek ship owners. At the quayside there are some nice cafes and the Hellenic Maritime Museum.

Tourkolimano

Also known as Mikrolimano (little harbor), is one kilometer far from Passalimani, close to Neo Faliro coastal zone Olympic complex. This scenic little harbour houses many multi coloured fishing boats. It is popular for its waterfront fish taverns and has a more relaxing atmosphere than the larger harbours. There are many in nightclubs and bars located at the north side of Tourkolimano it a popular hang out for clubbers and tourists.

Seaside

On the coastal road between Passalimani and Tourkolimano, stylish bars and clubs reside in the renovated Neo Classical mansions of Kastella, which is Piraeus' most chic neighbourhood. "Votsalakia", the organized public beach of Piraeus is also located here, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a swim in the peaceful waters of Saronic gulf.

At the other side along the coastal road connecting Marina Zeas with Piraeus Port is Piraiki which boasts numerous taverns and ouzeries are located here offering a magnificent view of the sea and serving a great variety of fresh fish, mezedes and ouzo.
