Ios Greece
Ios Greece is one of the southern Cyclades islands. The highest mountain on Ios is Pirgos 713m height in the center of Ios island. The warmest months are July and August (average temperature 28C). The weather is mostly cool however due to the northerly wind called Meltemi.
And there you are, leaning upon the bulwark gazing at the natural harbor of the Aegean and the second most popular area on the island, Ormos, known as Yialos among locals. At the marina, traditional fishing boats are leaving the harbour for the open sea in the morning and in the evening, fishermen return back to Ios with their nets full.
Chora (Ios) right next to Ormos, has a typical Cycladic architecture with the whitewashed houses being in sharp contrast with the blue sky and the winding narrow stone paved streets leading to chapels, windmills, or yards.
If you take a walk in the evening hours, you will find out that the three main squares are so overcrowded that you may lose your way in the small side streets. The windmills, on the slope above Chora, offer you another good excuse to show off your new camera.
Ios island is unique and renowned for its nightlife. There are clubs for all tastes and all kinds of music. At nights, the streets of Ios are full of people having fun, getting wild, dancing.
The nightclubs on Ios stay open until the morning hours and everyone exhausted but satisfied go to bed until the moon casts its light again.
Many visitors of Ios are attracted to the island because of its breathtaking beaches and crystalline waters. Some Ios beaches are very popular and crowded with tanned bodies scattered on the golden sand. Other beaches on Ios are less-frequented and are ideal for those who want a peaceful spot to relax in the sun.
Ferry boats and high speed catamarans depart daily from the Piraeus (Athens) during the summer to Ios.
