Tinos Island

The Holy island of the Virgin Mary

Although not well known to foreigners, Tinos is a popular year round destination for thousands of Greeks which flock to the island from all over Greece in order to worship the icon of the Holy Virgin Mary.

The capital of Tinos is Chora situated around the port. Here you can find many hotels and rooms for rent accommodation as well as seaside cafes, music clubs, bars, tavernas and a multitude of little shops that sell souvenirs, religious icons and trinkets.

The highlight of the island is the Church of Panagia Evangelistria (Megolohari) which houses the famous icon of the Holy Virgin Mary that is said to work miracles.

Each year on August 15 a mass pilgrimage of devout believers arrive on the island to worship and pray for a miracle and fulfillment of a vow. It is also popular for baptisms & weddings but you have to book the church many months in advance.

Tinos Nightlife

Tinos is not what one would call a party island but there are quite a few beach bars, nightclubs, pubs and discos as well as graphic tavernas. A leisurely evening walk around the cobble stone streets of chora and the port is also recommended. All in all Tinos nightlife won't disappoint you.

Tinos Transportation

On the island you can travel by local bus or by taxis which are located by the port. In town everything is mostly within walking distance or if you want to explore the island there are several rent a car & scooter agencies in town.

Tinos Beaches

Some of the most popular beaches on Tinos are Agios Fokas, Agios Sostis, Kionia, Kolimbithra, Porto, Panormos bay, and Pahia Ammos beach.

How to get to Tinos

Ferries to Tinos island depart daily (weather permitting) from Piraeus (82 nm) 4 hours as well as 2 hours from Rafina port. (60 nm)
